Sydney Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

Sydney Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

What is involved in a tummy tuck? Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is an operation to remove unwanted abdominal skin and fat while tightening the underlying muscles, so improving your waistline and body contour. It is not an operation for weight loss, but is most effective after a weight loss, once your weight has stabilised. Abdominopasty is often performed with liposuction.

Mini vs Standard? A mini-abdominoplasty involves a shorter waist-line scar and no scar around the belly button, while a standard abdominoplasty produces a longer waist-line scar and a scar around the belly button. The former is reserved for small volume tummy tucks, such as when removing a little overhang from above a caesarean scar. The latter is suitable for the majority of patients.

When should I have my surgery? If you are trying to lose weight delay your tummy tuck until you have reached a stable weight. If you are planning to have children, then you should wait until after your final pregnancy before proceeding to abdominoplasty.

What if I fall pregnant after my surgery? Most importantly your pregnancy will not be compromised as a result of your surgery, however you may well require another abdominopasty after you have delivered.
