Response to article - Cosmetic surgery: what are the options for aging men?

Comment – while I agree that men are showing an ever increasing interest in looking their best, and in turn are increasingly turning to cosmetic procedures, a few points relating to this article should be made.

Firstly, the male cosmetic patient never wants to look “done”. A far greater stigma persists around the male cosmetic patient than the female patient. Men wish to look refreshed and yet still a little rugged.

Secondly, with respect to neck lift, mid-face lift and facelift, men are at a greater risk of post-operative bleeding than women given the increased vascularity of their beard-baring skin. Post-operative bleeding, leading to haematoma, is the most common complication after these procedures.

Finally recovery from facelift can be as quick as 7-10 days, depending on the technique used. The confusion stems from the fact that the term facelift encompasses a multitude of different operations. So while it is true that recovery from a subperiosteal facelift will take 3-4 weeks, the recovery from many other types of facelift is much quicker.
