On Tuesday 26th November the inaugural Australian Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day was celebrated on Sydney harbour. BRA Day originated in Canada in 2011 and has quickly spread to USA and now Australia and New Zealand. The aim of the day is to promote awareness about breast reconstruction after cancer surgery.

Organised by the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons, five Sydney plastic surgeons were welcomed onto the Sydney Dragons Abreast dragon boat. Sydney Dragons Abreast is a dragon boat-racing club made up of breast cancer survivors. Together we rowed from Blackwattle Bay to Johnstons Bay, before attending a delicious lunch at Sugaroom Restaurant.

There was an intense feeling of positivity in the room as the Sydney Dragons Abreast shared their stories of survival and camaraderie. It was a wonderful event marking a very worthwhile cause.
